Folks, Yesterday, May 23, 2025 Robert A forwarded the “Official” Cleveland County Press Release as shown below and only added one sentence at the end. All as shown below for everybody to have easy reference as Robert A provides the REAL STORY about what the Commissioners have just done. And, Robert A will not waste your time with “legal mumbo-jumbo.”
The REAL STORY is the Cleveland County Commissioners have just raised your County Tax Bills by another $100,000.00. Except the increase will NOT show up on the Tax Bills the Country sends out to YOU once per year. This additional $100,000.00 CC Tax increase will show up on your Electrical Power Bills as YOUR SHARE of an incremental addition to the “Clean Energy Rider” Charges that are added to everybody’s monthly power bills.
This is how all this comes down:
- Brookfield Solar and the Property Owners on New Prospect Church Road wanted to put a Solar Farm on 500+ acres. Once the Solar Farm becomes functional all the Solar Farm Electricity production will be purchased by Duke Energy and sent out over Dukes Power Distribution lines with all of the other Electricity that Duke and others produce.
- Solar power produced electricity is more expensive to produce than most other sources of electricity such as Coal, Nuclear, Natural Gas, Hydro, etc. But Duke is required to purchase the Solar generated electricity by the State of North Carolina and Duke is allowed to add the additionalcosts of Solar Electricity through this Clean Energy Rider.
- This Extra $100,000.00 “bribe” that Brookfield Solar will pay to the Commissioners to ”get things going” will be considered just another cost of doing business in Cleveland County’s dirty dealing M.O. And, will be added by Brookfield straight to their bottom line of the costs to generate the Solar electricity in Cleveland County, NC.
- Then Duke pays Brookfield Solar their extra $100,000.00 back.
- Then Duke gets paid back for that extra $100,000.00 by all their customers in Cleveland County and elsewhere
So, all you Cleveland County Tax-Payers, What are YOU getting for this extra $100,000.00 that YOU are paying to the Cleveland Commissioners in the roundabout way as shown above. It’s a perfect crime.
Hey, Commissioners Kevin Gordon, Deb Hardin, Johnny Hutchins and Doug Bridges, Where is this New Found $100,000.00 going when it hits the Cleveland County Bank Accounts??? That is ONE (of perhaps many things) that the new FY 25-26 Recommended Budget did NOT include. Or the Press Release shown below.
This is just one more deception from the Cleveland County Commissioners Kevin Gordon, Deb Hardin, Johnny Hutchins and Doug Bridges.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 23, 2025 CLEVELAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ANNOUNCES SETTLEMENT WITH BROOKCLIFF SOLAR, LLC
SHELBY, NC – The Cleveland County Board of Commissioners today announced that it has reached a legal settlement with Brookcliff Solar LLC, effectively resolving all outstanding legal matters between the parties.
Under the terms of the agreement, the County will dismiss its pending appeal, while Brookcliff Solar LLC will pay the County a total of $100,000- half within the next 30 days and the other half upon completion of Brookcliff Solar’s construction. Additionally, Brookcliff Solar will ensure that five of its property parcels along New Prospect Road will comply with the County’s new, more stringent setback requirements. The parties also join in a “no precedential value” statement, jointly acknowledging that the settlement agreement does not create any common law vesting rights with respect to county-issued building permits.
“This resolution is the product of reasonable minds coming together and finding a solution that works for both sides,” said Kevin Gordon, Chairman of the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners. “It allows both the County and the company to achieve their respective goals without compromising the County’s permitting process – past, present, or future. At the end of the day, we are pleased to put this legal dispute to bed while welcoming Brookcliff Solar’s financial investment in Cleveland County.”
The settlement marks the beginning of a professional and forward-looking relationship between Cleveland County and Brookcliff Solar LLC, as both parties focus on their respective missions and contributions to the community.
The specific financial benefit to the County includes the receipt of $100,000 in total payments from Brookcliff Solar LLC, divided into two equal installments as described above. Brookcliff will also adhere to the County’s new setback requirements for the five parcels along New Prospect Road, while providing the County, our citizens, and the environment with an additional source of clean energy.
The County appreciates the engagement of its citizens and business community throughout this process.
