Project South is the given name for the new $45 million (and probably more) sewer and treatment plant for Kings Mountain. The first secret meeting held on February 8, 2022, at the Patrick Center turned out to be a packed house.
By popular demand this second secret meeting will again be held at the Patrick Center in Kings Mountain on March 15, 2022, at 6:00 PM.
Probably the biggest complaint about that first secret meeting was that the public was notified about the meeting in sufficient time and that the brief description of the new sewer plant project was not made available to the public until the meeting had already started. Nobody had time to review the details in advance. At the end of the meeting, it was totally obvious that the majority of the members of the general public at the meeting sincerely believed that Kings Mountain officials were trying to “pull the wool” over the public’s watchful eyes.
This second meeting also appears to fall short of details delivered to the public in time for an adequate review before this meeting. I suspect the public will also be just as skeptical this time about this project. A project that seems to benefit the land developers and builders, at the expense of landowners and farmers. Many of which are in the Kings Mountain Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) where they do not have the opportunity to vote for (or against) the City Council Members and Mayor who are making the decisions that affect them.
This second meeting is also expected to turn contentious when the people finally have the opportunity to speak and ask questions. But that is democracy. American style Democracy!!!
See all y’all at the meeting.
