President Ronald Reagan turned out to be 100% right when he said “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat!” When my article about the School Board refusing to second Danny Blanton’s motion for the School Board to form a School Board Safety Committee hit the internet, with advanced copies to the School Board, their phones must have rung off the hook.
Yesterday, School Board Chairman Shearra Miller and Superintendent Stephen Fisher called in Board member Danny Blanton for a meeting regarding his ideas for a School Board Safety Committee and promised to have a Safety Committee draft plan ready for the July 26, 2020 School Board meeting.
I don’t take full credit for this incredible turn of events for a school board that has vowed to NEVER go along with anything that Danny Blanton ever brings before them. They won’t let him speak during regular meetings so he has to sign up for citizens participation to get three minutes to say to the board what needs to be said. But I will say my original article was the fuse that lit a stick of dynamite under the behinds of the school board. The dynamite being the upcoming 2020 School Board elections. An election where a full majority (5) of School Board positions are up for election and citizens of Cleveland County are tired of the wasteful school boards total incompetence as related to such a poor education that Cleveland County Schools actually provides for the $155 Million, they spend every year.
Folks, be sure to come to the July 26, 2020 School Board meeting. Or watch the video broadcast. I predict School Board incumbents up for elections’ Roger Harris, Richard Hooker and Shearra Miller will be racing to take the credit for the idea of a School Board Safety Committee. Even though we all know that School Board Member Danny Blanton was the one who brought it up and nobody else (of the other 8 school board members) would even second his motion.
But, keep this in mind. The School Board only listens to Danny Blanton and the public right before an election. Put a stop to their foolishness and arrogance. Vote for Robert Queen, Ron Humphries, Joel Shores, Rodney Fitch and Samantha Davis for the School Board in the 2020 Elections. These five represent a new majority on the School Board that will listen to the public all the time. And also stop the wasteful spending, the favoritism and nepotism in hiring, will insist on better teaching strategies and learning practices and performances, accountability and transparency. These five have not only seen the light. They will be the lights. Plus Danny Blanton and you have a SUPER majority on the school board. Wonderful things will happen when this new majority is sworn in.
