2020 Election Time is upon us in North Carolina as well as here in Cleveland County. Articles and comments of high importance have been published by myself and Rev. Dante Murphy and advance copies sent directly to a distribution that includes both elected officials and black and white local leaders. Two so-called “Black Leaders” have sent messages, exactly the same message, that they want to be taken off the distribution list. Obviously in fear that they will be identified by white leaders as “uppity” instead of being “informed” of what is going on in their “sphere of influence.”
Mary Degree, Mary Accor and Jeff Ross asked to be taken off the advance distribution list of articles and comments published by myself, Rev. Dante Murphy and others.
First, Regional NAACP Leader Mary Degree wrote “I was not representing any group. I was at the meeting to find out what was going on in the City. Please don’t think I was representing the NAACP. People can go to meetings without representing a group! Next time ask before you send out an email about me. I don’t need your help!!!!” I did not respond to Mary Degree’s comment. I just kept her on the distribution list.
Then, regarding a different article, Former County Commissioner Mary Accor asked to be taken off the distribution list of articles that I write and especially to a comment made by Rev. Murphy. This is what Mary Accor wrote to Rev. Murphy and later to me: “This is a request to have my name removed from any future emails. Thank you.
My response to Mary Accor was this:
Mary,
I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for your comment and request.
However, I make it my practice to provide an advance copy to every person connected, directly or indirectly, with any and every article that I write. This allows any person involved to advise me if anything in my article is incorrect and allows me to make the appropriate corrections before the article is published to the general public. I believe that is a reasonable practice and will continue doing so.
Also Mary, You are a former Cleveland County Commissioner and presently serve on several Boards and groups that serve the public’s well-being. It would be irresponsible for me NOT to copy you on issues that are of great public concern and interest.
Therefore, I will continue to copy you and others like you who are considered leaders in our community.
Thanks,
Rev. Murphy was more to the point. His response to Mary Accor was this:
It is historic that when blacks seek to please their white superiors, they must make a public statement in opposition to other blacks or in compliance with the ideas of their master. Rather than making a public appeal to be removed, here are some options:
1. Use the block feature on your personal email (similar to the same feature found on Facebook, mobile phones, etc.).
2. Lobby for laws against mass emailing (similar to those being used to combat telemarketers).
3. For government issued emails you should consider resigning your positions. This will alleviate having to deal with the public.
While there may be other options please consider these for the future.
Rev. Dante’ Murphy
Jeff Ross, Manager-Community Engagement & Corporate Responsibility, Atrium Health, wrote: “I am requesting to be removed from this group email.”
To which Rev. Murphy gave Mr. Ross the same reply as he gave Mary Accor as noted above. And, in another post says:
“In Jeff Ross and Mary Accor’s defense it is known that certain blacks are selected and used for the purpose of camouflaging injustice, racism, and other forms of oppression. Many people will talk about the road less traveled, but few are willing to fight it.
Support demonstrations and protests during the ALWS 2020!””
Then, Mr. Willie Green, the subject of gross discrimination and very unfair treatment by both the City of Shelby as well as Cleveland County, wrote the following
“I don’t understand why would anyone, especially our black leaders would want to disassociate yourself from people like Rev. Murphy, myself and others who have given so much to support our community and who are willing to fight for equal treatment, fairness and empowerment in our community?
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when you will need allies to help you in your time of need or support your cause. So be careful of your asking.
Willie”
Then Rev. Murphy says:
In Jeff Ross and Mary Accor’s defense it is known that certain blacks are selected and used for the purpose of camouflaging injustice, racism, and other forms of oppression. Many people will talk about the road less traveled, but few are willing to fight it.
Support demonstrations and protests during the ALWS 2020!
Editor’s Note: It is uncertain whether or not everybody on our distribution list actually reads our articles. They do so at their own risk!!! What IS CERTAIN is NOBODY else has asked to be taken off our list. All our articles can be found at our citizensforgoodgovernment.org website. Feel free to read and share our articles. You will be glad that you are well informed when you step into the voting booth on Election Day.
Bottom line here is, Cleveland County is our home and we intend it to be a welcoming, fair and equitable place for all. Red or yellow, black or white. It is ALL of us that are responsible for making it so. If you Are NOT a part of the solution-YOU are part of the problem. It is year 2020 and that is just how it is.
