Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award-Cleveland County, NC Award suggestion provided by Robert A. Williams

January 20, 2020 is a declared Holiday in Memorial to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was an activist well known to advocate vigorously for equal justice and opportunity for African Americans living in the United States. Dr. King spoke out very loudly against injustices and was himself jailed several times in the process of his advocacy. In the end, Dr. King was murdered while in the process of his advocacy.

So, I wonder, who would be the best person presently residing in Cleveland County, North Carolina that would best fit the mold of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King in their public advocacy of justice and equal opportunity for African Americans in Cleveland county???

As I advocate justice and equality for everyone, black or white, leave me off the nomination list. Also, since I came up with this idea of a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, it would be “bad form” for me to nominate myself.

If I was to make a nomination, it would be Mr. Willie Green. Not only has Mr. Green earned TWO NFL Superbowl Rings; he has in his personal live attempted to live the dream of justice and equal opportunity in his attempts to send kids to college, provide a Sports Complex that would train athletes and in the process help kids avoid drugs, crime and other social problems by giving them something to do. Mr. Green is also an entrepreneur business man. All of which seem to be opposed by the injustices and un-equal opportunity that prevails in Cleveland County. Mr. Green is fighting them all. What Dr. King was advocating, Mr. Green is living that fight. In the here and in the now.

I would also nominate Rev. Dante Murphy. Rev. Murphy is fighting the same fight as Dr. King and Mr. Green, except he no longer resides in Cleveland County. But Rev. Murphy is still fighting the fight. Now mostly in New Hanover County, but still in Cleveland County too.

I would NOT nominate Rev. Dr. Lamont Littlejohn, Jr. as his name seems to pop up regularly in my investigations of corruption in Cleveland County. Rev. Littlejohn has been appointed to various Boards in Cleveland County. The Gardner-Webb Board of Trustees, the Cleveland Community College Board of Trustees, The Cleveland County Schools Diversity Team and more. However, Rev. Littlejohn does not seem to actually and actively advocate for much except himself. To me, that means he doesn’t do much that Dr. Martin Luther King would approve of.

Also, there are those that “wish and Pray” things would approve but don’t actually do much active advocacy of any remedies for the problems that exist all around them. They don’t do anything exactly wrong, but they don’t do much “right” either. Also, existing under the “shadow” of Rev. Littlejohn would not, in my opinion, would NOT be something Dr. King would approve of.

So, who YOU nominate to receive the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in Cleveland County And why???

Make your nominations at the bottom of this article or send them to me by email. Sound off for justice and equal opportunity on this Holiday weekend.
