Breaking Story!!!
Kimberly Reynolds, The Executive Director of the North Carolina Democrat Party, filed a Petition this past Thursday with the State Board of Elections alleging that a group called Carolina Leadership Coalition (CLC) has formed a 501(c)(4) corporation to funnel money into Republican candidates campaigns while illegally failing to report who actually provided the money. The Petition specifically mentions Commissioners Johnny Hutchins, the late Ronnie Hawkins and Tim Moore. According to the Petition the CLC has raised $2 Million plus and has not disclosed a dime of where the money actually came from. Which is believed to be highly illegal. The Petition also accused the CLC of receiving money from corporations, which is also highly illegal on it’s face.
The Petition also accuses the CLC of running many Facebook ads to enhance Republicans and run down Democrat candidates. Much like the US Department of Justice has charged many Russians for in the name of “Collusion” and “Meddling” with our elections. What a hoot that is!!!
A call to the Cleveland County Board of Elections has not yet been returned. Since the Petition was signed Thursday October 18, 2018 it is not certain that the CCBOE has been notified.
Our question to the Board of Elections would start by asking for the many Exhibits to the 23 page petition go get a better idea who else is involved with the CLC. Also, has any local candidates received campaign money directly from the CLC as this might implicate that candidate too.
The Petitioner has asked the State Board of Elections to:
- Commence an investigation
- Determine the CLC to be a political committee
- Freeze all CLC accounts
- Impose fines, penalties and fees
- Order the CLC to Register and Report as required by law
- Require all candidates who received CLC money to “disgorge” the value of the funding
- Refer the matter to the NC Superior Court for prosecution and other such things.
This is a breaking story. We will report any new material as soon as we receive it.
