Editor’s Note: Today is Thursday, Halloween Day, 2024 and the last Shelby Shopper before Election Day (November 5, 2024) just came out. At the bottom of Page 6 i9s a campaign ad to re-elect Commissioner Kevin Gordon as a CC Commissioner. Only in the fine print, very, very fine do you find links to the real Kevin Gordon. That Kevin Gordon is a “Skunk,” “Crook,” “Liar” and “Schemer” as has previously been defined by Robert A, with plenty of proof. This article includes fresh information that further proves that everything Robert A has publicly stated about Kevin Gordon (and Johnny Hutchins too) is accurate and true. Although only a fraction of can be told without writing a book of probably 1,000 pages.
Folks, let’s start with the finest fine-print in Kevin Gordon’s Political Advertisement in today’s Shelby Shopper. It states:
Endorsements: Sheriff Alan Norman / Cleveland County Fire Fighters Association.
- S’ When Sheriff Alan Norman relatively recently switched from a life-long Democrat to a Republican and accepted an appointment onto the CCGOP (CC Republican Party) Executive Committee, Sheriff Alan became politically and morally bound by the CCGOP Plan of Organization. In the CCGOP POO, on about page 35, it states that a CCGOP official (a Member of the CCGOP Executive Committee IS a CCGOP Official) MUST NOTEndorse a candidate for an elected position I a Republican Primary Election. And, to do so, would automatically remove that person from any official position in the CCGOP. In this case, both Sheriff Alan Norman and Kevin Gordon are official in the CCGOP. So, Sheriff Alan Norman violated the CCGOP Plan of Organization by endorsing Kevin Gordon and Kevin Gordon is in violation of the CCGOP POO by accepting that endorsement. Although this CCGOP POO might seem a little known and mostly ignored rule, it is the same as LAW within the CCGOP and it has been violated in the case by both Kevin Gordon and Alan Norman. And, it is dishonest to the core.
- Both Sheriff Alan Norman and the Cleveland County Firefighters Association receive much of their funding through the Cleveland County Commissioners. Directly and indirectly. Therefore, such endorsements are clearly conflicts of interest. More dishonesty and a conflict of Interest-pure and simple!!!.
- Kevin Gordon claims to serve as a Trustee on the Local Government Employee Retirement System, which would give Kevin Gordon some say regarding the retirement pay for firefighters. Also, Kevin Gordon claims to be a past-President of the NC Firefighters Association. Clearly an indication that Kevin Gordon has sufficient influence with the CC Firefighters Association to have an undue influence with the CCFFA.
- The combination of all these conflicts of interest and a clear “buddy system” of corruption withing Cleveland County Government functions clearly indicate that Kevin Gordon, with Johnny Hutchins in the wings supporting all this because of his own conflicts, indicate that CC Voters and taxpayers would all be better served by replacing both Kevin Gordon and Johnny Hutchins as described later in this article.
AND, Let’s not forget all the financial wheelings and dealings with the New Justice Center Project and the question of who is paying for all of Kevin Gordon and Johnny Hutchins signs, mailers, billboards and personal favors too?
Now, Folks, let’s see what we DON’T know about Kevin Gordon that should clearly shows that Kevin Gordon, as well as Johnny Hutchins are in FULL COVER-UP Mode.
We know that Kevin Gordon
- Had a high-level position in Gaston County as the Director of Emergency and Fire Services. A position Robert Awould reckon paid a salary of between $90,000 to $125,000 per year.
- ALL the various Gaston County Fire Departments, City, Town and Rural were consolidated and a 15 cents per $100 valuations, a FIRE TAX, was levied over all of Gaston County. Note that the Cleveland County School Tax is only 14 cents per $100 valuation. Meaning that Gaston County’s Fire Tax is MORE that the entire Cleveland County Property tax funds for ALL Cleveland County Schools.
- The Gaston County Fire Marshal has allegedly threatened to shut down many to all downtown Gastonia Churches, saying their parking lots are not sufficient. (Note that the Cleveland County Fire Marshal shut down the Dollar General in Fallston, during the Hurricane Helene storm when 95% of Cleveland County was in the dark, and the customers of the Fallston Dollar General was not available to resupply the upper parts of Cleveland County with much needed goods and services. Also note that electrical power to Fallston (and Robert A) that second day after the Hurricane passed through.
- ALL of Kevin Gordon’s campaign and other re-election documents have been thoroughly “scrubbed” of any mention of Kevin Gordon’s service in Gaston County as well as the circumstances of Kevin Gordon being forced to retire.
- Kevin Gordon has refused, after many requests, to “level” with the taxpayers and voters of Cleveland County and reveal why such a disciplinary action was levied against Kevin Gordon in Gaston County. Also, the Gaston County Manager and the County Commissioners have refused to answer telephone calls or direct questions related to Kevin Gordon.
What we DON’T know about Kevin Gordon’s IS HIS FITNESS to serve even one more MINUTE AS A CLEVELAND COUNTY COMMIUSSIONER:
Kevin Gordon removed the words “Leadership” “Experience” and “Service” from todays Shelby ShopperPolitical Advertisement. Why??? Is it because Robert A has started asking questions and doing some investigation that Kevin Gordon is ashamed of??? Or, knows for sure that this knowledge will cost him votes.
. So, why should Cleveland County voters be dumb enough, stupid enough and un-informed enough to vote for Kevin Gordon for Commissioners? Or Johnny Hutchins???

Also, on Kevin Gordon’s advertisement was his campaign website: www.Elect KevinGordon.com
When you go to this website, you will find a picture of Kevin Gordon in his “Dress Blues” Fire Marshal uniform. Standing there before a microphone with a pensive look on his face. Behind him, you will see two letters beside his left ear. The letters, “No.” How appropriate that is!! A “subliminal hint” saying “No, don’t vote for me!!!”
And, across the top of that “Homepage” there are categories to select. Of particular interest are the words “Meet Kevin” and “Platform.”
Under “Meet Kevin” you will see a passage that states:
“Dedicated, experienced leader with a proven history of providing strategic direction, operational management, best practices and service excellence.”
Robert A has attended almost all of the CC Commissioners for years now; and has never seen the REAL Kevin Gordon provide any of that. Better yet, Robert A offers a $100 Award to the first person who can show the PROOF of this so called “proven history” where Kevin Gordon has provided anything even close to what he says he has done. Kevin Gordon has tried to get a county NOISE Ordnance passed so he can shut-down his previous neighbor’s Labor Day Party. But all he accomplished was selling his previous home that was listed on the tax books for around $260,000 for $445,000 and build a new house for around $650,000. And, after Kevin gets “canned” from his high paying Gaston County Job, one must wonder how Kevin Gordon can afford his new house and his $80,000 pickup truck. Or, is accepting graft and corruption like previous Commissioner Eddie Holbrook and former County Manager David Deer now Kevin Gordon’s MO?
Note to Kevin Gordon, Johnny Hutchins, Eddie Holbrook and David Deer: If anything in this article is materially incorrect, please provide the correct information with proof and Robert A will print every word and apologize profusely!!! That option has always been available to each of you!! But never accepted.
Also, on Kevin Gordon’s political website, under “Platform” are various listings of “canned” political statements that sound good, but are false and misleading in regard to Kevin Gordon and Johnny Hutchins. And are not even “platform” items at all. Like Kevin Gordon claiming to be “honest!” when words like “Skunk,” “Crook,” “Liar” and “Schemer” are much more truthful, fair and honest as applied to Kevin Gordon and Johnny Hutchins.
Folks, there is much more. But this should be enough for any intelligent, informed and diligent voter to know well enough NOT to Re-elect Kevin Gordon and Johnny Hutchins as County Commissioners. And Robert A still hasn’t said another word about that $1,000,000 Country Check to Eddie Holbrook that has never been explained.
