CCS Assistant Superintendent Dr. William Dixon, Jr
Passed Away Today–April 24, 2015
Report by Robert A. Williams
It has been reported to me that newly hired CCS Assistant Superintendent Dr. William Dixon, Jr. Passed away today from complications of a knee surgery. The report stated that Dr. Dixon had a knee surgery and a blood clot developed. It is believed that the blood clot moved to a location that was fatal for Dr. Dixon.
Our condolences and prayers go to Dr. Dixon’s family and loved ones. This is a shock to Dr. Dixon’s family, friends and associates at Cleveland County Schools.
Dr. Dixon was hired from the Colleton County, SC school system as Assistant Superintendent at CCS to fill the position vacated when Dr. Stephan Fisher was promoted to Superintendent in a surprise and controversial move by a split CCS School Board (6-3 vote) at the beginning of this school year. It has been widely speculated that Dr. Dixon was hired to appease a NAACP threat to protest CCS and the ALWS rather than promoting from within as was the case with Dr. Fisher. Filling Dr. Dixon’s position at CCS is expected to generate controversy for the CCS Board members up for re-election this election year. Board Members Jack Hamrick, Jerry Hoyle, Richard Hooker, Shearra Miller and Roger Harris’ terms in office expire this year and each is expected to file for re-election.
I have no information regarding funeral arrangements for Dr. Dixon at this time.
