Editor’s Note: I received Bill Gray’s message as well as more information about Restart (failing) schools at about the same time. The message and information complement one another (follows the flow) and gives the reader more to think about in a logical, focused and reason-based manner. We need more logical, focused and reason-based thinking here in Cleveland County. Especially on the school board, Commissioners and at Cleveland Community College Board of Trustees!

Robert, I tried to post this but it wouldn’t let me? I will repost it if you think it follows the flow
Thanks
BillyHere is my $ .02 worth on Restart Schools. I have been trying to learn more about this, and other things for some time. The trouble with this and everything else, is that what goes on inside CCS stays inside. if not, the heads will roll and paychecks stop. I believe it is a Department of Education plan to mimic Charter Schools, so the dollars don’t go out of the system.
The deal (from the way I understand it is that the franchise that takes over the school and does improve its test scores, and nothing else, will get to keep it. If this model does work out, eventually we will no longer need a School Board. The School System will be privatized. Then we will not have any input into the system. Which we don’t have now with this rubber-stamping bunch. My prediction, is that time is running out for us in Cleveland County to have any say in our children’s education. If we don’t flip this Board in 2020, we will be to the point of no return. We must elect Men and Women with the moral principles and the courage to stand up and STOP this assault on our Children and our culture. End post
I think they are using this or something like it. Lots of people think that their children are not under the common core program in charter school, my son included. This is just a pig with lipstick. An improvement but far from a real American education.
Thanks Robert

Now, More information on Restart Schools in Cleveland County!
There are presently six failing schools in Cleveland County and many more on the verge. Possibly ten or twelve altogether. Over one-third of the County’s 29 Schools are failing or close to failing. Shelby Middle School was failing recently but a new Principal brought the numbers up before the Restart rule caught them. Possibly by fudging some numbers???
The Restart rule kicks in when a school fails three years in a row. Bringing in a new principal before the end of the three years of failing scores resets the score keeping for an extra three years before Restart kicks in. CCS has been juggling principals in and out of failing schools for the sole purpose of avoiding Restart. So, there is no accurate count that I have found of just how many low performing schools are close to failing. And for how long.
James Love Elementary School AND Graham Elementary School are presently Restart Schools because there were just too many failing schools at CCS and not quite enough principals available to be juggled long enough to avoid Restart for James Love and Graham.
It should be obvious to all reasonable people that just juggling principals around to avoid Restart is just a cover-up scam that does not address and resolve the problems and social issues related to failing schools in Cleveland County. All CCS administration and the eight phony School Board members have done is cover-up, protect and preserve their corrupt political influences and attempted, many times, to shut-up and shut-down Board Member Danny Blanton. Spending $130,000 per child for a substandard education during years of attending failing schools. One third of CCS schools represent about 5,000 students that attend a failing school whose failure is due to a failing CCS system. Administration and School Board.
It is no wonder that our workforce development is so poor here in Cleveland County. With 9,000 in the workforce with below poverty level pay and 20,000 county residents on Food Stamps and other welfare assistance, you have to know that failing schools at the failed CCS system are a big part of those bad but telling statistics that were just noted. On top of that half the students at CCS, about 500, graduate every year without being able to read and do math at a proficient level. Just adding more and more people to the list of people whose lives were robbed of a good and proper education. And a seven-week course at Cleveland Community College that helps two or three people get better jobs at companies that have been on the receiving end of Millions in tax incentives is clearly not effective in even slowing down the numbers of uneducated and undereducated students that come of age every year. Every year. And we go further and further behind. And Cleveland Community College wants to spend $1.5 Million on a baseball field.
The pity of all of this is it will be 2020 before voters have the opportunity to remove the offending school board members and replace them with good ones-like Danny Blanton. Especially when a punishment that fits such a crime would be tarring, feathering, and riding the offending school board members out of Cleveland County on a rail. Do you hear me Shearra Miller, Jo Boggs, Richard Hooker, Roger Harris and Jeff Jones? Maybe Stephen Fisher, Dr. Jason Hurst and some on the CCC Board of Trustees too. Such as Rev. Lamont Littlejohn and Wes Westmoreland. As well as Commissioners Susan Allen, Ronnie Whetstine, Johnny Hutchins and County Manager Brian Epley while we are at it. Commissioners who fork out $millions in taxpayer dollars with no measure of accountability for anybody.
So, the start of any turnaround in the Public Education system in Cleveland County is obvious. Get rid of Commissioners Susan Allen, Ronnie Whetstine and Susan Allen; as well School Board Members Shearra Miller, Richard Hooker, Roger Harris, Jo Boggs and Jeff Jones in the 2020 elections. Then the new elected officials can fire CCS Superintendent Stephan Fisher and County Manager Brian Epley. Then, as the appointment times for the CCC Board of Trustees roll around every year, the problems at CCC can be rooted out too. Only thing with CCC is that this process will take a little more time to get the ineffective BoT Members out and put in better ones. Of course, a Strong new group of Commissioners could demand that every CCC Board of Trustees member resign and then reappoint the good ones and appoint new ones for the remaining members that need to be replaced. All this is do-able if good citizens run for office and the rest of us vote for them.
