School Board Refuses to Form a “Safety Committee!!!”  –Board Rubber-Stamps and Accepts Liability for School Safety for next School Year without discussion on details!!!  –Report by Robert A. Williams

Folks, this is one of those times that I have to begin with the unbelievable and just say, don’t believe me or a word I say, just go to the School Board Live Broadcasts for the July 17, 2020 Special Called School Board Meeting and listen for yourself. Fast forward through all the fluff for the first one hour and fifty minutes (1:50 exactly) and listen from there to the end. That is enough to cause any reasonable person to vote for Robert Queen, Ron Humphries, Joel Shores, Rodney Fitch and Samantha Davis for the Cleveland County School Board in the 2020 School Board elections.

This whole July 17, 2020 School Board meeting was called for one reason. To hear a plan put out by CCS Superintendent Stephen Fisher on how Cleveland County Schools is going to start school at the regular time next month and be responsible for the safety (coronavirus and everything else) for all the 2,000+ school staff as well as 15,000 students. After a few minutes into the meeting, I realized just about everything was liable to be changed 10 times between now and August 17, 2020. So, I started to fast forward.

At exactly one hour and fifty minutes (1:50) School Board member Danny Blanton made the Motion to form a “School Board Safety Committee” and that he be included on the committee. The purpose was to be to monitor the uncertain situation in the coming school year for ANY safety issues and immediately bring the issue to resolution. Incredibly NO school board member seconded the motion. Some said there was not enough information, some said the issue was too broad and some said there was no policies and procedures to go by.

Danny Blanton, being Danny Blanton, made the statement that he couldn’t believe that the other EIGHT school board members didn’t care enough about the safety of school staff as well as the children of Cleveland County to “second” his motion. A number of School Board members said they did care about safety but none would second the motion to form a safety committee.

And yet, in the next few seconds, the school board voted to approve Supt. Fisher’s Reopening Plan giving the same sort of reasons they said were the reasons they didn’t second the motion to form a School Board Safety Committee.

Like I said folks, don’t believe me. Don’t believe a word I say. Just go to the CCS website and listen to the July 17, 2020 School Board Meeting Broadcast. From 1:50 until the end.

Be sure to go vote for Robert Queen, Ron Humphries, Joel Shores, Rodney Fitch and Samantha Davis for the School Board in the 2020 School Board Elections. Put an end to the present disaster ridden school Board majority. Voting like I sated above will change the School Board immediately after these challenging candidates are sworn in.
