Mark Twain once said there were “Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics.” In the 2010 Election year, there have been too many just plain lies to talk about. So, for the purpose of brevity, we are limiting this article to NC campaigns and only two of the biggest liars. Read on and see if you agree.

The Number One Liar has to be Elaine Marshall. Elaine is a Democrat running against Incumbent US Senator Richard Burr. Elaine is well known for her “aggressive” campaigning and her claim to fame is she beat Richard Petty in the race for NC Secretary of State a number of years ago. Petty was leading that campaign until Elaine’s dirty politics and maybe the Democrat-controlled Highway Patrol do in Richard Petty. Too bad too!!! Who in the world knows whom the North Carolina Secretary of State is? Who in NC does? Very few I bet. If Richard Petty were the NC Secretary of State lots of businesses would want Petty’s autograph on their Incorporation papers. And everybody would know Richard Petty was involved in North Carolina politics and they would have a little better opinion of NC. As for Richard Petty, NC Democrat politics is too dirty of a business and he’s never had much else of a use for NC ever since–the business world either.

Anyway, Elaine is hollering at the top of her voice that Washington is broken and Richard Burr helped break it, that we need to throw him out. She’s also accusing Richard Burr of sending all our jobs to China, bailing out the banks, not taxing enough and raising America’s debt. Elaine seems to forget that Democrats have controlled both the Senate and the House since 2006 and the Office of President since 2008. Elaine also forgets that the vast majority of the problems she blames Richard Burr for have happened with the Democrats in control. Elaine is especially forgetful to admit that she doesn’t want the top Democrat in the USA, President Barack Hussein Obama, to come campaign with her. Elaine wants everyone to forget she is a Democrat and has always supported the Democrats (like convicted felon Jim Black, Kay Hagan and big tax and spender Bev Perdue) who have bankrupted North Carolina and the USA.

Hey, Elaine even supported Democrat Dan Crawford for Sheriff in 2002 when Crawford was defeated by Cleveland County Democrats by an almost 4 to 1 margin.

So Elaine Marshall wins our Top Liar Award in the 2010 Election. Best I can tell, Cleveland County has always supported Elaine Marshall and will likely support her this year. What does that say about education in Cleveland County? That we like our politicians to lie to us? The bigger the lie, the better we like it?

So, the Number Two Liar, Republican Patrick McHenry will fit right in too. Patrick is sneaky with his lies; He is not a bald-faced liar like Elaine Marshall (Elaine Marshall looks straight into the camera and speaks, says the Raleigh News and Observer). Read more!! Where Elaine will tell you flat out lies, statistics as Mark Twain might say, Patrick is the ultimate politician liar who tells you one thing and does another. Patrick says he is against government bureaucracy and waste. Yet, when asked McHenry and his million dollar tax-paid staff for help getting to the bottom of the Jimmy Terry apparent fraud on the Federal disability laws, McHenry and his high-dollar staff quickly cut a trail to somewhere else. McHenry sends out all these mailers at taxpayer expense lying about how he is trying to cut government waste. Yet for the past four years, Democrats have been in control and McHenry was not able to do anything…even if he wanted to.

But, there appears to be a pattern to Patrick McHenry’s shenanigans that indicates a more sinister MO for McHenry than just a simple Mark Twain-esk storyteller. In wondering why McHenry wouldn’t get involved with figuring out why Patrick avoided the Jimmy Terry fraud, other facts about McHenry emerged, facts and issues that McHenry had been able to hide and cover-up. Then a resemblance in MOs started coming together. Patrick McHenry’s MO resembles Democrat former Senator and Candidate for President John Edwards. (Photo at left is Prison “Mug-Shot” of Jimmy Terry for his latest conviction of stealing chicken feeders.)

John Edwards was a successful trial lawyer who, at an early age, made tons of money trying medical malpractice lawsuits. Then Edwards became interested in politics and apparently was thinking about running for President from the git-go. An opportunity to run for US Senate came about and Edwards lied his way into the US Senate. Then Edwards immediately began his run for President and serving the folks in NC didn’t matter at all. McHenry has similar traits except that McHenry got into politics at an earlier age than Edwards and without a personal fortune. So McHenry began his political career by conniving and sucking up to Republican Party leadership. No matter about the citizens of McHenry’s district, McHenry was even more interested in sucking up to the Party leadership and even more so with political campaign contributions.

The only problem McHenry has had in his obvious resemblance with John Edwards and a run for President was the US Constitution. According to the Constitution, you have to be 35 years old to run for President. McHenry was not 35 until this year, 2010, and this is not a Presidential Election Year. So, McHenry will have to wait until 2012 to actually run for President. That means McHenry will have to get himself elected one more time in 2010 to be set for a Presidential run.

Of course, depending on how things shake out in 2012 and the rush to get rid of Obama, McHenry may decide to wait until Kay Hagan’s term comes up in 2014, run for the Senate-which has a six-year term, and then run for President in 2016. This might make more sense to McHenry. This was something Edwards failed to do…run for President during a Senate term in office, so if you get beat you will still be drawing a Government check as a US Senator and you can run again at a later date. McHenry would still be young enough.

So, our top two political liars in 2010 Elaine Marshall and Patrick McHenry, with Elaine barely beating out Patrick. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just send both of them home in the Election two weeks from now? Hey Elaine, Hey Patrick, get off the taxpayers back and go get an honest job!!! (Or, if telling lies was a crime, perhaps you should join Jimmy Terry in prison.)

Stay Tuned-you heard it first in Citizens For Good Government.

Clerk of Superior Court and Coroner

Leave these two offices blank as there is no opposition for either office.

Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor

We recommend only Roger Eaker for this office. The reason is simple. William Walker and Paul Davis are presently serving on this Board and Roger Eaker is not. The founders of The United States believed that political offices should be changed out on a regular basis and I can’t argue that point with the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. The Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor is an unpaid position with a mixture of elected and appointed members. The work of this Agency is usually low-key and almost never makes the News. We suspect only a small group of individuals are interested in this important but payless and thankless job. So, in the interest of not burning any of them out, we would recommend voting for the individual that is presently not on this Board and thanking those that have previously served.

Referendum-Constitutional Amendment

We recommend Voting AGAINST this Constitutional Amendment. First of all, what purpose would this Constitutional Amendment serve? The Office of Sheriff is an elected office and voters decide who may serve as their Sheriff. What is wrong with that? “Nothing” is the answer, even though voters make mistakes on occasion. Re-electing Sheriff Raymond Hamrick is a good example of that.

In 2002, CGG recommended electing Raymond Hamrick for Sheriff. Electing Hamrick Sheriff in 2002 was the right thing to do. Things were different in 2006 so CGG recommended Don Allen for Sheriff. Not enough people listened and we had four more years of Raymond Hamrick mostly missing in action because of his health.

The political process in Cleveland County and North Carolina is not perfect. Would such a Constitutional Amendment, advocated by Debbie Clary and Tim Moore, make it any more perfect? The answer is NO!!!

There are several problems with this Constitutional Amendment. Not the least of which is, why is it needed in the first place? The answer to that is any law barring anybody otherwise legally able to run for Sheriff is UN-Constitutional. These nitwits in Raleigh, headed up by Debbie Clary and Tim Moore, have learned this the hard way. The retroactive law that was passed to TRY to take gun ownership away from folks in David Morrow’s situation was found UN-Constitutional the first time it hit the Court of Appeals. Go back and read about Judge Rick Elmore. So the nitwits decide they will go about this same kind of monkey business in a different way. They would change the NC Constitution to make an UN-Constitutional law Constitutional. Just wait until this hits the US Courts and the US Supreme Court hears about this. Many lawyers will make tons of money over this boondoggle

We recommend Barbara Jackson for this office. It is “liberal activist” vs. “the-law-means-what-it-says conservative” Judges. When conservative judges make their rulings, justice is done and people are happy. When activist judges make their ruling, only the lawyers are happy. It is your choice. VOTE FOR JACKSON!!!

Court of Appeals Judge

Steelman is an incumbent without opposition. He’s doing a good job too. But, remember our philosophy—if only one person is running for office, LEAVE BLANK!!!

Court of Appeals JudgeWe recommend Ann Marie Calabria for this office. Calabria is an incumbent conservative and is doing a good job. Jane Gray once advised NC Speaker of the House, Jim Black. Black was convicted and sent to jail for bribery. VOTE CALABRIA!!!

Court of Appeals JudgeWe recommend Rick Elmore for this office. Steven Walker is conservative and young. He will make a good judge when his time comes. Rick Elmore is an incumbent conservative and is doing a good job. Rick Elmore believes the Constitution means what the Constitution says and laws that violate the Constitution are unconstitutional. Rick Elmore does more than just say this. This is how Rick Elmore makes his rulings. VOTE FOR RICK ELMORE!!!

But there is more to this saga and part of it comes straight from Cleveland County.

Remember all the mess about David Morrow not being able to carry a gun, that a Sheriff should be able to carry a gun and that the ability to bear arms should be a qualification for the Office of Sheriff? Remember that there is a Constitutional Amendment on the second page of this Ballot asking for the Constitution to be changed so Tim Moore and Debbie Clary can keep David Morrow from running for Sheriff? Well, the reason Tim and Debbie want this Constitutional Amendment is that Judge Rick Elmore ruled that their Ex Post Facto Law (also unconstitutional in the US Constitution) that says David Morrow couldn’t carry a gun was unconstitutional in the first place. Bet you never read that in the Shelby Star; most likely you never will either.

But it’s a fact. It’s also a fact that Tim and Debbie have worked hard in this blood feud against David Morrow instead of working hard on getting jobs and education into Cleveland County. Remember to Vote AGAINST Tim and Debbie’s Constitutional Amendment, which they are endorsing for vindictive purposes only.

Court of Appeals Judge We Recommend Dean Poirier for this office. Remember, activist vs. conservative Judge. Now you have the picture. Poirier is conservative and we need conservative judges. Please vote for DEAN POIRIER!!!

Cleveland County Judges
Once again Cleveland County Judges running without opposition. Our philosophy:
Leave Blank!!!
Leave Blank!!!
Leave Blank!!!

United States Senator:

We Recommend Richard Burr for US Senate.

Richard Burr was elected to take over the US Senate seat previously held by John Edwards. Remember all those campaign lies told by John Edwards to get elected in 1998? Don’t fall for those same tricks that will be used by Elaine Marshall. Burr has done a good job since being elected in 2004. Burr has withstood four years of Democrat control in the US Senate and we need Richard Burr back in the Senate to help end the wasting of Trillions of Dollars without even reading the laws that are passed by Obama Democrats. On the other hand, Elaine Marshall would join right up with the “tax and spend” liberals in Washington, just like she has done during her years in Office in North Carolina.

Board of Commissioners:

We recommend Phillip Bradford and Jason Falls for Cleveland County Commissioners. Folks, go to Cable Channel 19 and watch the Commissioner Candidates Forum of September 27, 2010. Jo Boggs and Eddie Holbrook talked jobs for the people, but not for their people. Their people are the elitist County Club and DCC crowd who also don’t have jobs. Their people don’t need jobs; they have plenty of money already. Jo and Eddie didn’t have much to say for people who need jobs so they can put food on the table and pay their mortgage or rent before they get thrown out on the street. Jo and Eddie did have one use for the working people: pay the taxes that Jo and Eddie like to spend.

It was interesting to hear Jo Boggs tell about how, in that very auditorium (named after Eddie Holbrook’s in-laws), she had lectured Governor Beverly Perdue to bring jobs to Cleveland County. I reckon Gov. Perdue did her part by sending a $1.5 million State Grant to DCC for them to squander. As for Jo’s part, she is too fond of being bragged on by the people she surrounds herself with to understand that she has actually not helped the workers of Cleveland County at all. If Cleveland County was able to prosper based on the talk of Jo and Eddie while looking through their “rose colored glasses,’ we would ALL be Millionaires.

But real life don’t work that way. Sweat and hard work are the things most of Cleveland County people have to do to survive. That is where Jason Falls and Phillip Bradford come in. All they promised was to let every worker keep more of their wages through smaller government and lower taxes. Jason Falls provided statistics that showed there were 91 counties ahead of Cleveland County in unemployment rates, 97 counties were ahead in finding jobs for their citizens and 73 counties were ahead in lower property tax rates. If that ain’t proof enough on who to vote for, then I don’t know what is.

Mark your ballets Jason Falls and Phillip Bradford for County Commissioners!!!

First Choice-

Doug McCullough

Second Choice-

Pamela M. Vesper

Third Choice-

Jewel Ann Farlow

Have you ever seen such a mess as this ballot for Judge? All this came about like this. Gov. Jim Hunt appointed Jim Wynn, a liberal activist black judge, to the NC State Supreme Court to fill a vacancy. When the first election rolled around, Wynn was defeated. So Gov. Mike Easley appoints Wynn to the NC Court of Appeals. The next election comes by and Wynn is almost defeated by Jewell Ann Farlow. So President Obama, at the urging of Senator Kay Hagan, appoints Wynn to the Federal Court where he will do as much damage to the US Constitution as possible. When Wynn got appointed, a vacancy was left and this crazy ballot came about to allow the best chance for another liberal activist judge to win. Only Gov. Beverly Perdue and the NC State Board of Elections could have come up with such a mess. Lawsuits because of this are likely to go on for years.

Anyway, We recommend Doug McCullough as the most conservative, Pamela M. Vesper as the best investigator and prosecutor of Real Estate Fraud, and then Jewel Ann Farlow, a conservative who should have beaten Jim Wynn in the first place.

These are our recommendations and we are sticking to them. A sample ballot showing what the actual ballot, marked up to show our recommendations, looks like will be included in this issue Be sure to run off a copy and take it with you to the ballot box.

Also, we recommend voting on the November 2, 2010 Election Day. This way there is less chance your ballot will be miscounted or lost and substituted for. This might not be Chicago, but Chicago probably took a lot of lessons from the crooked ballot-counting in Cleveland County. That’s what Buck Carr says anyway.

We recommend leaving this slot blank. Debbie Clary has no opposition this year and voters have no choice in this office for another two years. This time around, the Democrats have been pleased enough with Debbie that they decided not to spend any money on running a candidate against her. Debbie seems to be Democrat enough for the Dems. She also seems to be able to raise plenty of campaign cash for herself and to spread around a little to knock David Morrow out of the Sheriff’s Primary Election race, ensuring a Democrat will win the Sheriff’s Office.

2012 will be different though. Debbie’s support, after starting a blood feud in the Republican Party over Debbie’s felony charges against David Morrow, has also killed Don Allen’s chances in the Sheriff’s race as well as ensuring Democrats will run someone against Debbie next election.

Hey, it took almost 90 years into the Twentieth Century for Cleveland County to elect a Republican to the State House. When the smoke clears from Debbie’s doings, it might be 90 more years for Cleveland County conservative Republicans to get somebody back in Raleigh. Hey Republicans, when you snooze-you lose!!!

Remember to leave Debbie Clary’s oval blank and then move on down the ballot.

District Attorney District 27B

Leave this blank for obvious reasons. Cleveland and Lincoln Counties voted for this self-proclaimed “prosecutor” in 2006 and have been sorry ever since. Hey, the “prosecutor who is afraid to prosecute” would be a better description of DA Richard Leroy Shaffer. I have tried hard since Leroy was elected DA to catch him trying a serious felony case in Superior Court. I have only caught him trying four cases. Two were for littering, which DA Shaffer lost. One was for damaging personal property, which Shaffer also lost. And one case was for assault on a female, which Shaffer won. If any candidate deserves a “blank” vote, it is the High DA, Leroy Shaffer. One more thought. Democrat Shaffer decided to bring felony charges on Republican David Morrow, whom the “establishment” Republicans are having a blood feud with. In return (?), Republicans did not run a candidate for DA against Leroy even though they could have. Is this a coincidence or what??? Again, leave this blank!!!

NC State House of Representatives-Cleveland County Precincts are split into three districts.

District 110 includes most of Upper Cleveland County, several precincts close to Moss Lake and a big part of Gaston County.

District 111 includes Shelby, Kings Mountain, Boiling Springs and surrounding Precincts. This is the only District completely within Cleveland County.

District 112 includes only Mooresboro, Lattimore and Kingstown in Cleveland County and all of Rutherford County.

As you can tell, Cleveland County has been carved up so that about half the county will be represented by somebody from another county. To have any influence, Cleveland County Precincts must vote as a block. Hopefully you will follow our recommendations so Cleveland County won’t be left out when our Representatives go to Raleigh. Be sure to check your ballot for your correct district. See Recommendations below.

NC State Represenataive District 110

We recommend Kelly Hastings for NC State House Representative District 110. This is why. Kelly’s family is from Casar and Kelly has lived most of his life in Cleveland County. Kelly knows Cleveland County. John Eaker knows Gaston County (maybe). Also, John Eaker believes all things come from Government and its taxes. He said so too at the September 28, 2010 CCC Forum. Watch C19 and hear it for yourself. Please folks, do not send John Eaker to Raleigh. This decision is easy. Cleveland County, Vote for Kelly Hastings!!!

NC State Represenataive District 111

For strategic political purposes in 2012 and beyond, we recommend Mary Accor for this office in 2010. We believe that Mary Accor is too liberal for Cleveland County and we have never supported Mary for political office. But Mary has managed to get herself elected and Cleveland County has suffered for it. Mary herself is a moral and ethical person, but the crooks at DSS and in the School System line up alongside Mary and she is too naive to know the difference. So, what to do? Well, let’s send Mary to Raleigh with a mandate. Get the 74 Bypass started in 2011 or we dump you in 2012. Since Mary is a Democrat and will fit in with the majority in Raleigh, perhaps she will get this done. Of course, this would be a good thing and we can reconsider in 2012 if Mary gets it done.

On the other hand, we have supported Tim Moore the four times he has run for an elected office. Tim Moore and Debbie Clary are our biggest names in Raleigh, but they have not brought home the bacon either. Now we find Tim was associated with Debbie Clary’s blood feud with David Morrow that has split the Republican Party. Tim has also worked hard on getting a Constitutional Amendment to keep David Morrow from running for Sheriff. Tim, jobs, jobs, jobs are needed in Cleveland County. Constitutional Amendments for vindictive purposes will not produce jobs or anything else other than more bad blood. Tim, you are working on the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Now Caswell County (Story in this Edition) has spilled some beans on Tim Moore and a few other incumbents. So now it is time for some attitude adjustments in Raleigh regarding fat-cat lobbyists and their political contributions. District 111 folks, this time around Vote for Mary Accor!!

NC State Represenataive District 112

Political strategy is needed in this race too. So much bad stuff has happened since the 2006 and 2008 elections that this year’s elections are pretty much meaningless. Therefore, we recommend Jim Proctor for this office in 2010. Jim Proctor and Mike Hager both are from the other side of Rutherford County and probably know very little about Mooresboro, Lattimore, Kingstown and the rest of Cleveland County. Both are now in the Real Estate business and Hager has some bad (but unsubstantiated) rumors floating around about bankruptcies and debt regarding some of his developments. Hager also refused to answer questions from the AARP about elderly care and other issues that many of us are beginning to worry about. Proctor says he would extend a sales tax that was supposed to be temporary. Proctor has been elected five times as Mayor of Lake Lure. So, all-in-all, let’s send Jim Proctor to Raleigh just like Mary Accor. Their mandate will be “Get the 74 Bypass approved in 2011 or we, the voters, will call you home in 2012.” Let us also let Walter Dalton, Beverly Perdue and Debbie Clary know that we want the 74 Bypass approved in 2011 or we will be calling them home too. Folks, politics can be get pretty simple when you understand how it works.

US House of Representatives District 10:

We recommend Jeff Gregory for US House District 10. The CGG has recommended Patrick McHenry in every Congressional election, including the May Primary, 2010. We were WRONG and we are ashamed to have been taken in by the misrepresentations and lies (mostly of omission; i.e. leaving out the truth of the matter in order to deceive) told by Patrick McHenry. Especially since Cleveland County has been instrumental in Rep. McHenry winning these elections. (See website www.republicansagainstpatrickmchenry.com for more information).

For the CGG, the truth about Patrick McHenry’s storytelling came out at a McHenry Town Hall meeting at Cleveland Community College on August 17,2010. We arrived fully intending on supporting McHenry despite warnings from the TEA Party to throw out all incumbents because all the McHenry taxpayer-paid mailers that filled our mailbox on a regular basis telling us what a good job McHenry is doing took us in.

Then, as the meeting progressed, we began to realize McHenry was NOT listening to the people. The Republicans had packed the place with Party people who were there to listen to McHenry and cheer him on for the benefit of the Press.

At the end of the meeting, we went up and asked Rep. McHenry for some assistance on finding out how Federally-funded disability checks were being funneled to a convicted druggie, Jimmy Terry and how this druggie was being protected from having to pay child support because of Federal funding. We thought helping find and correct wasteful uses of taxpayer dollars was something McHenry would be glad to help put a stop to while helping feed two children in the process. At least you would have thought so by listening to his speeches. (Be sure to re-read the story about druggie Jimmy Terry, Deputy Rock Smith, the FBI, the DSS, Judge Ali Paksoy and Federal Disability. It is reprinted in our 2010 Election section).

But Noooo!!! McHenry was not interested at all in the waste of taxpayer dollars or feeding hungry children. It took a while for the whole thing to sink in. McHenry probably helped the druggie get Federal Funding in the first place. Later information indicates McHenry is well known to help Veterans with narcotic pain pill drug addictions get their pain pill prescriptions approved at the VA Hospital in Oteen.

Voters, let’s give Patrick McHenry the boot on Election Day. Vote for Jeff Gregory. Gregory is said to have switched to Democrat to avoid the Republican Primary for a better chance of going head-to-head with McHenry. We agree with his strategy. Hey, anybody but McHenry. If Gregory is no good, we can get rid of him in 2012.
